Walker Bay Surf Shop, est 1993, is named after the magnificent bay that the coastal town of Hermanus overlooks.
The unassuming 10m² store in Oude Hof Mall was originally set up to service a small core of local surfers, offering them everything they might need to fuel their passion for the sport. Because of the demand, we had to move in 1992 to a larger store in Harbour Road.
Bodyboarding and surfing, as a sport, took off making riding a wave accessible to people of all ages. Locals and holidaymakers have been introduced to the sport by our surf school and are able to purchase a wide variety of surf and bodyboarding equipment and accessories from our store allowing them to enjoy one of the most popular water sports in the world.
In May 2021 (after COVID lockdown), we decided to move premises to a larger, more central corner shop.
We take great pride in our store. We source the best and most fashionable surf clothing and gear available. We also make sure that we carry the widest range of wetsuits, board, skate equipment and accessories.
We are stoked to welcome back third generation customers to our store. Young parents who were brought into our store, years ago, are now bringing their young kids in for their first wetsuits and bodyboards.

I have always been extremely interested in surfing and I wanted to stand up just once when I first started out. I started getting the hang of it after the 4th lesson and I go back every year to remind me about the basics. The instructors are extremely helpful and have a great sense of humour. I would highly recommend going, even if its just for a fun afternoon!

We will highly recommend going there for your very first lesson as when you leave you feel like you actually know which waves to catch and how to read the currents,we knew nothing about the sea and have never surfed before. Thanks to James Gordan we could actually stand on the surf board and enjoy our first surf lesson.
We really hope James Gordan gets a reward for giving Walker Bay a good name and being an excellent instructor who makes young surfers walk off feeling happy about the surf lesson and come back for sure.
